Drilling rock is a very difficult process and during drilling some problems with hammers might be faced. In order to avoid such problem the following precautions are taken:
Compressor Output is Checked for
Temperature & altitude are adjusted |
Air pressure is checked with pressure gauge |
Air filters are checked |
Minimum Level of rock oil is maintained
Drill Rods are Checked for
Air leakage’s throughout |
Pressure loss in hose | |
Weight on bit is checked for
Feed cylinder dropping |
Proper rotation & feed | |
Control tube is checked for
Correct diameter and height |
Chips at internal diameter |
Burrs on outer diameter
Check valve is checked for
Proper seating | |
Level of rig is checked for
Level jacks leakage |
Hydraulic pressure dropping at valve end

Recommendations
Observe closely on hydraulic system elements and detect any leaks in the system, even though it may be very small, take appropriate action to correct them (simply by tightening the joints or reporting to the service engineer) Leaks on the radiator should be observed daily otherwise this will lead to engine failure.
